Overview
Open surgical enucleation of the prostate adenoma for very large glands not suitable for endoscopic treatment.
Indications
Very large prostate (>80-100g), concomitant bladder stones, bladder diverticula.
Procedure Details
Through a lower abdominal incision, the prostate adenoma is enucleated from within the capsule (transvesical or retropubic approach).
Recovery
Hospital stay 5-7 days. Catheter for 5-7 days. Return to activities in 4-6 weeks.
Risks & Considerations
Bleeding, incontinence, retrograde ejaculation, wound complications.
